Log Fire Warms Cats

With winter looming, and home energy prices continually rising, I thought it would be a good idea to install a log burning stove.

First the old fireplace had to be removed and the hole enlarged. Hearth and tiling done, followed by the flue liner, then the stove put in place!

Halogen down-lighting installed on a dimmer, remotely operated using LightwaveRF (more on this in another post).

At this point the cats were let back into the room. CleoCat was rather confused as to what the new addition to the living room was, until I lit a small fire.

Next the wooden lintel was installed, and the walls re-plastered. Once it was dry, wallpaper applied and some tidying up. Log fires are great for warming both feet and cats.

This is definitely one of the best things I’ve spent my money on. It’s fantastic relaxing in front of the fire with the girlfriend (and the cats), with a glass (or bottle) of wine.

Additionally, it’s probably better for the environment than the gas fire was too, assuming the wood is sourced from re-planted forests. (or fallen trees and old pallets!)
